YOUR VOTE IS YOUR VOICE

Nigeria’s elections are coming soon – scheduled for February 2019 – and political conversations across all forms of media are on the rise. Young people usually dominate these conversations.

Youth make up more than half Nigeria’s population. But beyond discussions, they usually don’t participate in the electoral process. Your vote is your voice! We encourage ALL YALI Network members in Nigeria to make their voice heard.

The recently passed “Not Too Young to Run” bill attests that it is time for youth to claim their rightful place in Nigeria’s political scene. Participate in the electoral process – it’s your duty as a citizen.

The first step is to register as a voter in your area of residence. On Friday, 17 August, the registration process will be suspended. Visit the nearest INEC registration centre, register to vote, and encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same. If you have already registered to vote, ensure you obtain your Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) and be prepared to vote. Your future depends on it.

In the coming weeks, we will be launching the YALI Network #9jaVotes2019campaign focused on the Nigerian elections. Stay tuned and look out for campaign emails. In the meantime, register, get your PVC, and visit yali.state.gov to take our online course on Understanding Elections and Civic Responsibility.
